05 Waiver and release of liability
Waiver, Release of Liability & Programme Agreement
Hillel Taekwondo Programme

1. Acknowledgement of Risk

I understand that taekwondo is a full-contact martial art and that training, sparring, breaking, conditioning and demonstration activities carry an inherent and unavoidable risk of physical injury — including but not limited to bruising, sprains, fractures, dental injury, concussion, and in rare cases catastrophic or fatal injury. I acknowledge that these risks cannot be eliminated by supervision, protective equipment, or instruction, and I voluntarily assume all such risks on behalf of myself and/or the student named in this registration.

2. Release & Indemnification

In consideration of the student being permitted to participate, I hereby release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue World Taekwondo Kingston, World Taekwondo Jamaica (WTJ), Hillel, and their respective instructors, officers, employees, volunteers and agents (the “Released Parties”) from any and all liability, claims, demands or causes of action arising out of participation in programme activities, whether on or off the training premises.

I further agree to indemnify and hold the Released Parties harmless against any claim brought by or on behalf of the student. This release does not extend to liability arising from gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

3. Medical Treatment Authorisation

I confirm that the student is in good physical health and medically fit to undertake martial arts training, and that I have disclosed in this registration every medical condition, allergy, injury, medication and physical or sensory limitation relevant to safe participation. I undertake to notify the instructor in writing of any change to that information.

In the event of injury or medical emergency where I cannot be reached, I authorise the instructor or a designated official to secure such emergency medical treatment as may be reasonably necessary, and I accept financial responsibility for the cost of that treatment.

4. Code of Conduct & Discipline

The student shall observe the courtesies and discipline of the dojang: respect for instructors and fellow students, punctuality, appropriate dobok and personal hygiene, and the prohibition of any use of taekwondo technique outside class except in genuine self-defence. Bullying, harassment, and the use of technique against a fellow student outside instructor-supervised drills are treated as serious breaches and may result in immediate suspension or dismissal without refund.

As this programme operates on Hillel premises, the student is additionally bound by the school’s own rules of conduct while on that campus.

5. Fees & Payment Policy

Monthly tuition for the Hillel Taekwondo Programme is JMD $16,000.00, payable monthly in advance. A place in the programme is confirmed once the first month’s tuition is received. Registration, dobok and grading fees, where applicable, will be advised separately in writing before they fall due.

Fees are not pro-rated for classes missed by the student, and are not refundable once a training month has commenced. Not less than thirty (30) days’ written notice will be given of any increase in tuition. Accounts more than thirty (30) days in arrears may result in suspension of training until the balance is settled.

6. Grading & Rank Testing

Rank progression follows the Kukkiwon-based grading system administered by World Taekwondo Jamaica. Eligibility for grading is determined solely by the instructor on the basis of attendance, technical proficiency, conduct and time in grade. Payment of a testing fee entitles the student to be assessed; it does not guarantee promotion, and testing fees are not refundable in the event of an unsuccessful attempt.

7. Photo & Media Consent

Photographs and video recordings are taken from time to time during classes, gradings, demonstrations and competitions. Consent to their use in programme publicity, social media and school materials is optional and may be given or withheld below without any effect whatsoever on the student’s participation. Consent once given may be withdrawn in writing at any time.

8. Privacy & Data

The information provided in this registration is collected to administer the student’s enrolment, attendance, grading records, billing and emergency contact, and is retained for as long as the student remains enrolled and for a reasonable period thereafter. It is not sold, and is not disclosed to third parties except where necessary for medical emergency, grading administration through WTJ, or where required by law. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of these records by writing to the instructor.

9. Communication & Notifications

I agree to maintain accurate and current contact details, and to respond in a timely manner to official communications — fee notices, schedule changes, grading announcements, and emergency alerts. Routine notices are sent by WhatsApp to the number given in this registration. I understand that sustained unresponsiveness to critical communications may result in temporary suspension of training until the matter is resolved.

10. Participation & Attendance

The programme trains Tuesdays and Thursdays — prep school 4:30–5:45 PM, high school 6:00–7:15 PM — commencing Tuesday 22 September 2026. Consistent attendance is fundamental to safe progression: technique taught in isolation from the preceding class carries elevated injury risk, and irregular attendance affects both the student’s own development and the standard of the group. I undertake to notify the instructor in advance, where possible, of planned absences.

I further acknowledge that (a) students are expected to attend prepared, in appropriate dobok, and with a respectful attitude; (b) parents and guardians of minor students are encouraged to actively support attendance and engagement; (c) recurring absence without communication may be treated as voluntary withdrawal, subject to the fee policy at Clause 5; (d) participation in events, tournaments and seminars is encouraged but voluntary unless otherwise stipulated by the instructor; and (e) extended or unannounced absence may affect eligibility for grading, team selection and competition opportunities.

⚠ Attendance policy — please read carefully. A student who misses five (5) consecutive scheduled classes without prior notice or satisfactory explanation will be automatically removed from the programme. Re-enrolment will require a fresh registration, subject to availability, and any registration fee will apply. A second removal on the same ground will be treated as a serious breach of commitment and may result in permanent dismissal, with no eligibility to re-enrol save on written appeal expressly approved by the Head Instructor.
Every student’s circumstances differ. Where medical, financial or personal difficulty affects attendance, speak with the instructor first — solutions are always explored before any formal action is taken.

11. Governing Law

This Agreement is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Jamaica, and any dispute arising under it is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Jamaica. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
